.308 Box

Anotha day, anotha box for the secret santa
Again, with a different mechanism

This one has some leaf spring type things that whip out upon opening and allow the box to be locked open, so it won’t fall and close itself (although the friction is already really good at doing that)
The goal was to have an ammo box for 5 rounds that you could ergonomically access while lying prone behind a rifle, hence the angle
The weird dimples you see on the inlaid text are because i don’t have a superglue applicator with a fine enough tip, so i just used a soldering iron to fuse the text in the cutouts i made for it

I won’t be remaking/adjusting it because of time constraints, but if I did, I would do the following:
– Generalize the text so that any ammo could be used without it being misleading
– Add some relief cutouts on the inside of the box, where the springs are held captive while the box is closed, as the lifespan of the springs when it is compressed like that is not great
– Get better superglue
– Reduce the height of the lid by ~1.5mm, to reduce rattle. There is zero rattle on the X/Y axis, but because of variance in bullet heights, it is hard to settle on a specific height to design for. These HEI rounds have a snubnose and are therefore shorter.

All in all, very sturdy! Nice!
