Why bother changing your pump-grip or adding picatinny for a light, when the tube cap is right there? And for that reason we have the “S.W.A.T” light by LaserAim from Little Rock, Arkansas, (a division of Emerging Technologies Inc)- mainly known for their handguns and lasers. This product was a collaboration between LaserAim and Choate Machine and Tool who was already making magazine tube extensions at the time and was also located in Arkansas.

The device’s halogen-beam bulb is powered by some flavor of C-Size diameter batteries and comes with a remote pressure switch which is then mounted to the pump or the receiver depending on switch length.

While the packaging mentions ‘Patent Pending’, I am unable to find any applicable patents by the relevant companies. It is possible that they lost out to Laser Products Corp (now Surefire) who got patent approval for their 870 fore-end lights in 1988.

Por qué no los dos?
Given the design is literally just a regular flashlight that happens to have an endcap with teeth, it is possibly too simple of a design to get a patent for.

It is compatible with the Remington 870, Smith & Wesson 3000, and Winchester 1200. These sold for appx $40 in 1987, or $115 in 2025 dollars.

It was very hard to find information on this item, and I would estimate it ceased production before 1990. LaserAim was trademarked in 1987, which limits the possible production years quite well.

Example with label and short remote switch – not my own
Frankly I am not sure why we don’t see similar products on the modern market. I think given the miniaturization of everything, it would be possible to make a device that performs better with a shorter overall length. The only one I know of is the ‘FM870FL‘ which is seeming no longer made and is last seen mentioned in 2013.

Choate themselves have recently(-ish) released the ‘Night Manager’, shown below, which advertises ‘an integral light and accessory mounting system’ but really just allows for mounting a light to the outside. Sad!

Resources
I have made a 3D Step file of the light – not including threads, knurling, or internals. It can be accessed with the button below if you want to texture it and add it to a game or something. If you need other measurements, shoot me a message!
